Catholics and/or Scripture

Tomorrow night we look at how Catholics understand the Scriptures during our Adult Education night. We meet in the big church on Waldo Blvd.

Sorry I forgot to post last week’s homework. If you are following along at home, you should have read: Chapters 3 and 4 in the Adult Catechism.

This weekend is the Rite of Welcome and Acceptance at our masses. More details to follow.

True God and True Man

This past Tuesday, we took a deeper look at the person of Jesus Christ. We know some things about him through history, through the Scriptures, through the Tradition and Church councils, and through faith. The bottom line is this: What is not assumed is redeemed. In other words, God came to earth and took-on every part of our humanity, except sin, in order to restore to us the Image and Likeness of God. That same God-man suffered and died for us. Our study of Jesus is meant to lead to devotion, not to a degree in Theology.

Therefore, the next assigment is Chapter 35 and Appendix B. We will then start to talk about Prayer and Relationship.

OUR NEXT MEETING IS OCTOBER 27. WE DO NOT MEET NEXT WEEK AS PER THE SCHEDULE.

The Short Story of Salvation

This past week, RCIA joined up with the rest of St. Francis of Assisi parish for some Adult Education. The response was powerful - over 100 people turned out for the event. We have it all on video of course.
We looked at the entire story of salvation and told that story in 2 or 3 different ways. The rest of the year will be spent unpacking what we did last night.

Assignment for RCIA:
Read Chapter 7 then Chapter 2

God Language & God Images

Tonight we explored what we even mean when we say "God". How can we say anything about God at all?

If you are following along at home... now you need to read Chapter 6 in the Adult Catechism and read Genesis Chapters 1-3. Click on the title of this post to go directly to the USCCB website where you can read those texts.

Last night we kicked off the inquiry period. Thank you for your time and attention. If you were not able to be there, I will be contacting you soon with a video and a textbook.

The first assignment is to read Chapters 1 and 5.

I would like to include a new link in addition to my own sermon podcast, Fr. Robert Barron puts out a weekly podcast and does a number of very good video commentaries. The link is in the lower right portion of this screen.
